Today, their activities actually extend well beyond the digital sector and are well on their way to spreading to all market sectors. For instance, Amazon has bought the supermarket chain Whole Foods while Google is investing in healthcare companies and the automotive industry.
GAFA’s Chinese equivalent is called BAT, for Baidu, Alibaba and Tencent.
