Transfer Learning

Transfer learning is a specific type of machine learning that refers to the transfer of knowledge gleaned from one task that can be reused for another task.

Generally, we talk about transfer learning when software is able to use solutions found for one complex issue to solve another similar, simpler problem. This method is thus a first step towards artificial intelligence.

For example, in dealing with visual recognition using AI, AI that has learned to recognize a dog (four paws, two ears, etc.) can use this knowledge to recognize a cat (four paws, two ears, etc., but with a different shape).
